I agree 100%, Tom Petty and the HB are the greatest U.S. band, ever. In my opinion there is a LOT of daylight to whoever would be in second place.
Love the Traveling Wilbury’s and Mudcrutch songs! Many have speculated that “I Forgive it All” was written about Tom Petty’s father, but who knows? It’s a beautiful sentiment, and a beautiful song. Great show……!
Very interesting tha TP may have written that
About his father. Probably did not want to be too
specific. Like a lot of Bob Dylan’s songs. Good stuff.
Right now we have a couple of agreements and one disagreement
that was texted though listener thought it was very close.
Very good show!! It might be an interesting idea to explore who is the greatest U.S. band ever. Would you consider a band that you don’t like? Keep up the good work!!!!!
We are getting a lot of interesting feedback on the question
of weather the Hearbreakers are Americas best R&R band.
Some have THEIR favorite bands. Right now it seems like about
75% think they probably are. There are more candidates than one
might think at first. One listener thought they were not influential
enough. It is a good question. No one has yet denied their greatness.
America’s greatest rock n rollers are The Beach Boys. Big fight for 2nd place with Tom Petty, Aerosmith, Van Halen, Bob Seger, Cheap Trick, The Eagles, Bruce and the E Street Band, Metallica, Allman Bros. And more. I’m goin surfin!
Great episode. My parents loved Tom Petty. I grew up listening to him. Will you be doing more special episodes?
Kelly had an interesting list of great bands. Looks like you have a hot topic to discuss!!!
Really great feedback by the comments,
text and even e-mail. Everyone here knows their
music. Heartbreakers still in front. Most reference
longetivity and consistancy.
Great balanced review of Tom Pettys career, I am sure you could’ve gone 4 hrs and tough to pick songs to include
